Network viewer
Network Viewer allows visualization and editing of Bayesian networks and Dynamic Bayesian networks.
Shortcuts
- Double clicking a node (with the Alt button held down) opens the Distribution editor.
- Using the key combination Ctrl+A selects all nodes in the network.
- Evidence can be set (on certain node types) by clicking a check box next to a discrete node state, or next to the mean on a continuous node.
- To set evidence on multiple states within the same variable hold down the Ctrl key.
- A particular state can be excluded by holding down the Alt key whilst clicking the check box.
- Double clicking a node opens the Evidence window.
Nodes
A node can be added in one of the following ways:
- By clicking on the Network tab on the main ribbon toolbar, and clicking the Node button or one of its drop down items.
- Right clicking in Network Viewer and then Add/Node....
- Via the shortcut key combination Ctrl+Shift+N
Node toolbar
A number of icons can be displayed in the Node toolbar, which is displayed at the bottom of each node, unless turned off on the View tab on the main window toolbar.
A tooltip is shown when hovering over each button, indicating its functionality.
- A plus (+) button, adds a query for each variable in the node (The query will also appear in Query explorer). For temporal (time series) nodes, a window will be launched allowing the minimum and maximum times for the query to be specified. > If multiple nodes are selected, queries will be added for all the selected nodes.
- A minus (-) button, removes queries for all variables in the node (The queries will also be removed from Query explorer).
- A magnifying glass, displays all queries defined for the node.
- A red circle, indicates that a node requires a distribution to be defined. Clicking the button will launch the Distribution editor.
NOTE
Temporal nodes may required multiple distributions. If any of these distributions have not been defined, the indicator will be displayed.
An orange circle, indicates that distribution values have been automatically created, or adjusted for a node, and should be reviewed. Clicking the button will launch the Distribution editor.
A solid black circle, indicates that the node currently has evidence. Clicking the button will launch the Evidence window. > For nodes that contain more that one variable, the indicator is displayed if any of the variables have evidence.
Two white rectangles, allow the chart display mode to be toggled for temporal nodes.
Links
A link can be added in one of the following ways:
- By clicking on the Network tab on the main ribbon toolbar, and clicking the Link button.
- Right clicking in Network Viewer and then Add/Link....
- Via the shortcut key combination Ctrl+Shift+L
NOTE
Any currently selected nodes are used to automatically populate the From and To nodes in the New Link window.
NOTE
A temporal link connects temporal nodes in a Dynamic Bayesian network, and has an associated temporal order which is specified when the link is created. If the order is greater than zero, a circle containing the order will be displayed in the middle of the link.
Zooming and Scrolling
Zooming can be performed in the following ways:
Via the Zoom Box which can be launched from the Network viewer toolbar located at the bottom of Network viewer.
Scrolling the mouse wheel, while holding down the Ctrl key.
Scrolling can be performed in the following ways:
Using the Network Viewer scrollbars in the standard way.
Expanding the Zoom Box and moving the inner view with the mouse.
Context menu
The Network Viewer context menu is shown on right mouse click.
It contains shortcuts to elements on the Main window and also:
- Find - locates a selected node in network explorer.
- Query - contains shortcuts to Query explorer actions.
