In this exercise, we will calculate some queries (predictions) using the Bayesian network we created in Exercise - construction.

Prerequisites

1 - Bayes Server

Bayes Server must be installed, before starting this walkthrough.

Note

An evaluation version can be downloaded from the Bayes Server website.

2 - The Bayesian network 'Identification Extended'

This network is available, from either:

  1. The SampleNetworks folder, that is packaged with the course help

  2. By working through Exercise - construction.

Open the Bayesian network

  • Launch Bayes Server and open the Bayesian network IdentificationExtended.bayes located in the SampleNetworks folder, that is packaged with the course help.

    Note

Alternatively the Bayesian network can be constructed manually in Exercise - construction.

Adding queries

  1. Use the keyboard shortcut F6, to add queries for all nodes.

  2. On The node toolbar for the Hair Length node, click the View query button (magnifying glass).

The query window should look like this:

    Exercise Inference Hair Length Query
  3. Open Query explorer, locate the query for Hair Length, and double click it, to view the query.

    Tip

By default Query explorer is available via a tab labeled Query Explorer, in a pane on the right hand side of Bayes Server.

Query explorer can also be made available, by clicking the Query Explorer button on the View tab on the main ribbon toolbar.

  4. Now click the check box next to Hair Length = Short, to set evidence, and notice how the other queries update, both in the Network Viewer and Query explorer. The window should look like this:
